I came across an article this morning on Yahoo! SPORTS. On the right is the logo for an Oregon hockey team called the Columbus Blue Jackets. On the left is the logo "designed" by a volunteer for Marc Delphine's campaign. Fortunately for him, he had never seen the Blue Jackets' logo before so just removed it from his campaign once he found out.
This is exactly what we've been discussing in lecture about what is and isn't appropriation of someone else's work. This one is blatantly infringement. All the person who volunteered to design the Senate candidate's logo did was make a couple minor changes and mirror the image, but it's clearly derived from the same logo.
It got me thinking, though, about my current Instant Book project. I wonder if I'll be able to do my idea now.
